TATHRA RURAL FIRE BRIGADE

Joining Tathra Brigade

The brigade is always looking for new members. We welcome people from all walks of life, both male and female, that live within 15 minutes drive of the Tathra area.

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) provides accredited training in bush firefighting, village firefighting, first aid and leadership. All positions are on a volunteer basis and members can expect to attend bush fires, motor vehicle accidents, structural fires and natural disasters such as floods and storms.

Contrary to popular belief, being a firefighter is not difficult and anyone in good health can join. Volunteering also takes up little of your time; training is conducted of an evening once a week. Upon 'joining', members are provided with all Personal Protective Clothing including fire retardant clothing, gloves, a helmet and strong boots. Becoming a volunteer also offers an excellent pathway into a paid career with the New South Wales Rural Fire Service, many of the jobs are listed on the jobs.nsw.gov.au website

If you are interested in joining the Tathra Volunteer Rural Fire Brigade we welcome you at any of our meetings. Please come and meet our members and have a look at the station, the vehicles and firefighting equipment. Potential members should also consult the RFS guide to volunteer recruitmentand the RFS volunteer recruitment website which has lots of detailed information and videos.Alternatively, you can make contact with the brigade via the 'contact us' page and request further information.

Expectations

Upon joining the Brigade, you will be required to undertake the BF training course and you will need to complete this satisfactorily before attending any incidents. Joining and training with us will open up a multitude of fulfilling opportunities to help the community in which we live.
