Are you prepared for a Bushfire Emergency?

Completing a Bushfire Survival Plan is a great way to ensure your family and property is ready for the season.  There is a wealth of information and fact sheets available from the NSW Rural Fire Service available here.

Bushfire Survival Plans are now available as iOS or Android applications and are a great interactive way to keep your plan up to date.

During the Bushfire Danger Period you obtain a permit by contacting the Bega Fire Control Centre during business hours, they will put you in touch with a permit issuing officer to make an appointment for a site visit.

At all times of year you must follow the guidelines here:

  • You must notify the Rural Fire Service at least 24 hours before you light by calling your local control centre during business hours.
  • You must notify your neighbours at least 24 hours before you light.
  • You must have sufficient fire fighting resources (water, pumps and hoses) on hand to control the fire you intend to light and the ability and persons on hand to utilise them.
  • You must be on site and monitoring your fire at all times.

The full list of regulations you need to follow can be found here.

Just because you can burn doesn't mean you should, weather conditions should be taken into account to ensure the fire will be manageable.

YOU are responsible for your fire. Lighting a fire without following the rules can result in fines and legal action. If the fire escapes your property you can be held responsible for damage to property and/or life.
